Generally speaking, games are a lot more fun when you play them with your friends. Whether that's going head-to-head with one another or working together to overcome whatever challenges a game may throw your way. Either way, a shared experience can make for some unforgettable moments.

Whether that's finally besting a powerful foe or laughing at your pal's lack of skills, playing games together is a joy. And, with the advancement of technology, you no longer have to be in the same room to enjoy an evening of gaming. There are plenty of options available where you can team up online.

And there's no shortage of online co-op games on Xbox Game Pass either. Today, we're going to tell you about five games available on the subscription service that you can jump into today and bring a friend along for the ride.

Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition

Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition is, as you've probably guessed by the name, a survival game that sees you stranded on various islands where dinosaurs freely roam. But fortunately, you won't have to survive against all odds on your own. You can team up with your friends and work together to build bases to defend against prehistoric threats.

The definitive version of the game, Ark: Ultimate Survivor Edition, includes Survival Evolved and its expansion packs. They are Scorched Earth, Aberration, Extinction, and Genesis Parts 1 & 2, giving you and your friends plenty of content to get your teeth into.

Forza Horizon 5

If racing games are more your friend group's speed, then Forza Horizon 5 is worth taking for a test drive. It sees you racing around different locales in a fictionalised version of Mexico. It boasts a huge map that's 50% larger than the previous entry Forza Horizon 4, giving you plenty of places to explore and activities to complete.

And it's a great game to play with other people too. You can join forces and enter the Horizon Arcade to compete in a series of challenges. Best of all, you won't have to worry about sitting in loading screens or lobbies to enjoy this multiplayer experience. It's all seamlessly handled in the world.

Halo: The Master Chief Collection

Halo: The Master Chief Collection has appeared on many lists here on Pocket Gamer Selects, and for good reason. It's a fantastic game. Doubly so if you play it with friends or family. Each Halo story campaign can be enjoyed in online co-op, allowing you and your pals to battle against the numerous alien threats together.

It will provide hours of entertainment since there are six games in the collection. They are Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2: Anniversary, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST and Halo 4. And once you've completed the campaigns, you can also head to multiplayer alongside your friends to test your skills against other players.

Gears 5

Gears 5 is the latest in Microsoft's Gears of War series, which follows a team of soldiers battling against a relentless alien threat known as the Swarm. They are dangerous foes made up of the remnants of the Locust. In Gears 5, Kate Diaz embarks on a journey to discover the origin of the Locust Horde.

It's an excellent entry into an already fantastic series that's improved by playing alongside a friend. Playing Gears 5 in co-op gives you a sense that you're battling against a powerful together rather than saving the world entirely on your own.

Sea of Thieves

Is the pirate's life for you? A good way to find out is to assemble a crew and play Sea of Thieves. Alongside your friends, you will set sail across the game's vast ocean in pursuit of treasure. You may also need to solve the odd riddle and best a few skeletons in battle.

Of course, guiding a sheep across the expanse of the ocean is no easy task, particularly when other ships are chasing after you. Occasionally, you and your friends might need to battle against other vessels to protect your treasure and increase your reputation on the high seas.
