I quite enjoyed Fruit Ninja - it’s one of those games that you tend to spend some time in, and then think ‘one more go’ or ‘just a few more fruit'. When Fruit Ninja 2 came out, I wasn’t sure if it would just be the same game, with a few updates. Thankfully, however, there is a lot of difference between the two!

Fruit Ninja 2 obviously has had a massive UI upgrade - you have a character (a ninja) who is looking back at you, holding your blade. At the bottom of the screen you can find your ranking on the seasons there are season passes with a premium and a free track. The premium track has better prizes. These quests to progress refresh after a timer is up, giving you six quests at once. They can be ticked off and you can refresh them with gems. You also have a bunch of daily quests to play through too.

There is a garden, which contains sprouts you need to water to grow different fruit power-ups, an armory which you can use to upgrade your weapons, change your character, upgrade power-ups, and unlock taunts. Fruit Ninja 2 has it’s normal shop as well, selling premium currency and power-ups.

When it comes to actually playing the game, Fruit Ninja 2 has two modes - the most interesting being a League mode, where you are given a ranking and are pit head to head against another person. The matches are automatically made, but you can fight a friend or train. When the fruit appears, they have a colored outline - you can only slice your color or white. You’ll be getting more and more points, matching up against your opponent, which makes for a fun time.

The base game has an Event Selection area, where you can find the different gameplays. There is an arcade mode, which has a limited amount of time, a zen mode with a bit more time, then three slots that are always changing. Fruit Ninja is all about slicing fruit, but in Fruit Ninja 2, there are new ways to slash them - some levels have bombs already out, with fruit flying between them - looking for you to chop the fruit you find. Another mini-game has you trying to find the best points, going higher and higher on a scoreboard that is only up for a set amount of time. These different modes have a separate scoreboard, unlocking prizes and showing how close you are to the next prize as you play, luring players in to continue until they get to the next place.

Fruit Ninja 2 takes the basic concepts from Fruit Ninja and brings so much more variety and polish to the game - something that’s great to see 10 years on. I really enjoy the number of options when it comes to slicing fruit - and the fact that they refresh keeps me always checking back to see what has changed and what new game is added.
